Reversing the Signs of Premature Ageing

We’ve all been told that prolonged exposure to sunlight, tanning beds, smoking or environmental chemicals can lead to premature ageing, but did you know that these also damage the collagen and elastin fibers in your skin?

Collagen is a group of proteins that are normally found in the body that mostly make up our connective or ‘fibrous’ tissues and is the most abundant protein in the body. Connective tissue, supports and connects other types of tissue or organs in the body. Think of it as ‘cellular glue’. Collagen helps give your skin its shape and keep it strong. Elastin is a different type of protein than collagen and has elastic (rubber band) properties. It is responsible for allowing tissues to snap back to their original shape. Lack of these proteins in the skin create wrinkles and sagging. Young skin that is healthy is smooth and taut. As we age, our bodies produce less of these proteins. Exposure to UV light compounds this effect on skin because it damages these proteins. When these proteins are damaged, they lose their connective and elastic properties. Think of a rubber band that has been over stretched. It will never return to its original shape.

The good news is that there is a way to stimulate your skin to begin producing collagen. Fraxel is a non-invasive and safe laser skin treatment for all skin types, that can take years off your appearance without extended downtime or negative side effects. Fraxel laser works by making tiny, controlled injuries to the skin. These small injuries stimulate the production of new collagen. As the skin repairs these tiny injuries, it also works to grow new skin cells and heal the older damage visible from sun exposure and other factors. This unique approach creates a dramatic result in patients experiencing sun damage, stretch marks, and wrinkles and fine lines.

If you have skin damage or are simply interested in maintenance or prevention, Fraxel may be the right treatment for your needs to remodel your skin. The result includes healthier, fresher and smoother skin, improved texture, pore size and tone and the softening of fine lines and wrinkles. Fraxel has also been found to be an effective treatment for reducing scarring (surgical & acne), uneven pigmentation, sun spots, age spots, enlarged pores, Actinic Keratoses and irregular skin texture.
